Algiers International Comics Festival Celebrates Young and Professional Talent

The Algiers International Comics Festival (FIBDA) marked its 2025 edition with an awards ceremony on October 1, showcasing the vibrant creativity of young Algerian artists alongside the expertise of established professionals. The competition featured three main categories: under 16, over 16, and the international contest for professional authors.

In the under-16 category, Mahibel Abderrahmen took home first prize for his work «Les veilleurs de la nuit», commended for its originality and ability to engage young readers. Anya Saci earned second place with «Anya and her fish Kasango», while Ryad Boutmeur secured third place for «Les vacances de S.I.P.S.», a piece reflecting the promise of Algeria’s emerging comic scene.

Among participants over 16, the top honor went to Yacine Slimane Ouchen for «Destin trahi», praised for its strong narrative and visual quality. The jury awarded second place to Ritadj Toubal Maamar for «Roofs of Algiers», and third place to Abbas Kebir Benyoucef for «Takfarinas», both recognized for their creativity and technical skill.

On the international stage, Hakima Touileb claimed the first prize with «Don’t Look into the Mirror», further establishing her reputation in the world of comics. Monthé Youmbi from Cameroon received second place for «Ma passion, ma danse», while Algerian artist Mohamed Boudjella rounded out the winners with third place for «Abbas Laghrour».
